New Star-Pole 'School of Happiness' is at Rikishi Compost Pvt. Ltd.

Report on Field Visit to Rikishi Compost Pvt. Ltd. by Class IX:

" Our School planned a visit to Rikishi Compost Pvt. Ltd. on 10th Falgun 2078 B.S. for better understanding of the process of making compost manure from household organic waste. We reached the facility at around 11:00 am and were immediately escorted inside the facility by the hospitable employees of the company.

Upon briefing we came to know that Rikishi Compost was founded in 2018, headquartered in Thimi and is based on `scientific and sustainable Japanese fermentation technology’ developed by Mr. Hasimoto Rikio. Mr Rikio had developed CNBM technology (Carbon/Nitrogen/Bacteria/Minerals) which has hence spread across the world and has the potential to become a key driver towards achieving sustainability in the field of waste management.

The staff members guided us through different steps of preparing the compost from the organic matter.

Step 1: Weekly collection of organic waste from the municipality households.

Step 2: Mix the organic waste with ‘Tokojai’ (mixture of husk, bran, redsoil, dry leaves, etc.)

Step 3: Maintain temperature at around 60 degree Celsius for proper and effective fermentation.

Step 4: Turn over the pile in 1-1st; 2-2nd; 3-3rd; 4-4th (times/week) for the compost made from household waste.

Step 5: Frequent monitoring and maintenance of temperature & moisture level. Through touching, smelling and looking at the color for quality assurance.

Step 6: Compost takes a minimum of 3 months to get ready and this depends on the temperature of the surrounding.

The company has been selling the compost manure at NR 35/- and is committed in quality control. Success stories have poured in from farms those have used the manure in their fields and crop production.

At a time when metropolitan cities like Kathmandu is facing acute problems in managing their wastes, companies like Rikishi Compost Pvt. Ltd. provides a clear, feasible and sustainable solutions. We as students have benefitted largely through this field visit. As we are already segregating the inorganic waste generated at our school, this visit has motivated us to take a step further and manage the organic waste generated at our institution. Wrishika mam, the CEO of Rikishi Compost Pvt. Ltd. who has been pushing forth this idea to communities and the state has inspired us to take the step and assured us with assistance required for the same.

We ended the field visit by visiting the famous Siddhi Kali Temple at Thimi and prayed for the well being for all.

At last we want to extend our thanks to the entire team of Rikishi for guiding us through the learning process with such expertise and for their important contribution to Nature conservation.

Go Green !! "
